Snow globe scenery

This morning I was sewing in my sun room. The baby was in her playpen watching the Wiggles which are a morning favorite. She suddenly began cooing what sounded like 'Look!' so I did and noticed that she was pointing out the window. When I looked out the window I felt as though I were inside a snowglobe. It was such a beautiful sight to watch the snow flakes falling. I can't really find the words to describe how lovely it was and it was a moment that she and I shared. I put down my sewing and sat in the rocking chair with her watching the snow till nap time. I am so fortunate to be able to share moments like these with her. I think sometimes what it would be like to work outside the home and realize how blessed I am that I don't have to. At least not at the moment. That may change but for now I am enjoying watching her grow and sharing these special times.

This years top toys

Is it just me, or do the toys that are most popular this Christmas seem to be creating an atmosphere of isolation for our children. Not only are the new toys replacing imagination, they are also replacing other children as playmates. First of all, there is the robo dog, then there is the comeback of Furby. If that isn't enough we have the introduction of pixel chix and then there are Iz, and IDog. These toys are all high demand Christmas wants this year and yet not one of them really encourages physical activity, interaction with other children, or a true use of imagination. It's really kind of sad. We danced with our stuffed dogs as children rather than buying a dog that does the dancing for us. As you can guess my children will not be finding any of these under our tree this year. We want toys that encourage them to play with others, get off the couch, and use their imaginiations. I hope that your children will have lots of joy to find beneath the Christmas tree.

The new season of 24

Okay, so who other than me is seriously looking forward to the new season? I'm not sure how they are going to do it but it will be an interesting premise to say the least. Poor Jack, he never seems to get much rest does he? At any rate I'm all excited that Keifer Sutherland is still doing the show it just wouldn't be 24 without him. I'm also ready for the new season of sci fi Fridays. I admit it I'm such a geek. I love all the shows, especially the two newest. I have to admit I was getting a little bored with SG1 but things have changed this season and there is not only fresh blood but a little bit of chemistry that seemed to have been lacking before. I don't know if they have hired some new writers or what but I'm loving the new ensamble.

I have never really considered myself much of a TV watcher. Most of the time I can take it or leave it. I like the 24 shows, NCIS, and sci fi Friday. I will watch the CSI shows and the newest Law and Order...Criminal Intent but those aren't must sees for me. I will literally plan my week around the Friday night shows though at least when they are new. Anyway, I'm simply procrastinating at the moment, I should be making sausage balls, folding clothes, sewing a few last Christmas gifts, and knitting on my scarf. Wow, I am so overbooked and only have myself to blame. Take care all!

How Important is Music Really?

I don't know about you, but major moments, times, years, dances, events in my life can almost be measured by music. It seems there is a song for each major event in my life that brings it into focus. One song that stands out to represent that period of time or that specific event. One piece of music that brings about the emotion of moments that would have been forgotten long ago without the aid of those lyrics to bring the moments back. Am I alone in this or do others find this to be true for them as well? Just curious and I would love to hear about some of the specific songs and events.

Charming baby!

Last night our youngest was the belle of the ball. The sad reality is that she is just too cute. I'm not the only one who says this BTW, but I will understand if you simply accept my claim as motherly bias. I'm sure your children are all just too cute too. At any rate, last night we went to a Christmas party with a relative and a bunch of people we didn't really know being new to the area. We went for the primary purpose of the baby and her big brother seeing Santa, even had presents especially for them as well as a special goodie filled stocking for each child. Which leads to the funny part of my story...well the two funny parts. First of all, baby brat would have nothing to do with Santa. Just the thought of me putting her on his knee and she was literally climbing up my arm to escape even the slightest hint of touching poor St. Nick who was sitting there with no idea what to do (this was no professional Santa, just a kind sould who either volunteered or more likely was nominated to play the part). Well I became the giftee by proxy and accepted the present and the stocking on behalf of our littlest. She was instantly fascinated by a snow white barbie sticking out of the top of the stocking and went off to play with her newly acquired booty confident in the knowledge that the old guy in the red suit was no longer a threat. Everyone thought is was cute when she walked over to the other baby while offering her new baby...and it was, even when the other baby accepted the offered gift. No one was expecting her next more which was to snatch the baby's stuffed animal and take off running. I was mortified and caught somewhere in between wanting the floor to rise up and swallow me whole and wanting to die laughing that our trick to getting no-no's away from her had seriously backfired on us. The vast majority of those in attendence decided that it was just darling and all was forgiven as soon as the stolen Pooh Bear was returned.

After this we decided to remove ourselves to a neutral corner of the room where hopefully she would be less likely to reek more havoc. We opened her gift finally which was a rather cute little flashlight that makes sounds (Santa is soooo smart, he knew just how much she loves playing with daddy's flashlight and found one that was just her size). Well she was cute going from person to person and holding it up while making sweet sounds so they would push the button for her. She would go round the room again and again having everyone that would pay her a seconds worth of attention push the button for her. What really had them amazed was that at the ripe old age of 15 months our precious little angel would tell them all a perfectly audible "thank you" each and every time. I think this more than anything had every adult in the room completely under her spell. Which was surprising to me. Doesn't everyone teach their children to say 'thank you?' I really thought it was a given, but was a very proud mommy that everyone thought my children had good manners.

Have a great day, I'm off to make sure I have the proper munchies for the Colts game this afternoon. GO COLTS!!! Okay...moving on.
